Scotland have secured their berth at next year's Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow, but managed to put their fans through the wringer at the Algarve Sevens by taking until the plate final to qualify.
After losing 14-26 to France in the cup quarter-final on Saturday, the Scots regrouped to thrash Germany 33-0 in their must-win plate semi-final before seeing off Italy by 22 points to 14 to win the plate and secure their place in the finals along with France, Georgia and Portugal – who won the cup with a 7-5 victory over Spain, but who nevertheless booked their place at the Moscow tournament.
