Ian McLauchlan's two-year term as president of the Scottish Rugby Union ends tomorrow but the former Scotland captain may now wield even greater power within the sport after joining the organisation's board.

The two-time British & Irish Lions tourist is joined in becoming a director by Colin Grassie, a Glasgow-born international banker and former triathlete who sits on the board of the Winning Scotland Foundation.

They respectively replace Gordon Bulloch, the former Scotland and Lions hooker, and Donald Emslie, the ex-executive director of Scottish Media Group.
