LEON SMITH's hopes of taking Britain a further step along the road to the Davis Cup World Group may have severely diminished after Andy Murray decided to miss next week's tie at Braehead, but despite his disappointment, the GB captain has given his full backing to his former protege.

Murray announced yesterday that he would not be available for the Euro/Africa Zone Group One tie against the Slovak Republic after being advised to take time off on medical grounds after his tough five-set defeat by Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open.
