The highest monthly bills for "substitute single service accommodation" (SSSA) property rentals total £36,824 in Glasgow, £14,554 a month in Aberdeen, £14,513 in Dundee and £7720 in Helensburgh. In all, rooms or houses have to be rented in 57 Scottish towns and cities from Wick to Galashiels, with the heaviest concentrations around Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee.
An MoD spokeswoman said: "Scotland is relatively well off for military barracks and family accommodation is in good repair. But a lot of it is just not where it is needed."
