A mother and two sons left seriously injured after being hit by a car as they crossed a road were recovering yesterday.
The three, who were named locally as Lola Olurkin, 34, and sons David, two, and Abraham, seven, were injured as they crossed Clifton Road in Aberdeen at 5.30pm on Tuesday.
Friends have said that after a night in intensive care, all three were improving.
It is understood that Mrs Olurkin, who is originally from Nigeria, had just picked up David from nursery when the accident happened.
It is believed she was trying to cross between rows of bumper-to-bumper traffic with her boys when they were struck by a grey Nissan Almera.
All three were rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where Mrs Olurkin works, while David was flown by air ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for specialised treatment. It is thought he is suffering from an infection on his lung, as well as a fractured pelvis and other cuts and bruises.
It is believed that Mrs Olurkin's husband, Ope, was working in Nigeria at the time of the accident, but was on his way to Aberdeen to be with his family.
Chief Inspector Tom Forrester, head of roads policing with Grampian Constabulary, said: "This was a serious road traffic collision involving a mother and her two children. We are carrying out a detailed inquiry so that we can establish the circumstances which resulted in the injuries to the family.
"We have interviewed a number of witnesses as well as the car driver who was shaken and upset by what occurred."
He added: "Clifton Road is a busy road with a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, especially so at teatime.
"We are appealing to anyone who was in Clifton Road and saw the collision, or saw the Nissan Almera or the woman and two children prior to the collision, to get in touch with us."
