Police investigating the attack on Celtic coach and former team captain Neil Lennon in Glasgow's west end have issued images of two men.

Police investigating the attack on Celtic coach and former team captain Neil Lennon in Glasgow's west end have issued images of two men.

Lennon was beaten unconscious in the city's Ashton Lane by two men just after midnight on Monday, September 1.

The atack came hours after Celtic had lost to Rangers in the first Old Firm derby match of the season.

Strathclyde Police are now trying to trace the two men captured on the CCTV images published today.

Detectives think these men may be able to assist them with their enquiries.

The men police wish to speak to are described as: Male 1 - white, dark hair, heavy build, 5ft 10ins-6ft wearing black leather jacket and jeans.

Male 2, - white, mousey brown hair, medium build, 5ft 8ins-5ft 10ins in height wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

Detective Sergeant Scott Douglas, from Partick CID, said he would like to to speak to anyone who has any information relating to either the incident or anyone who may recognise the men in the pictures.

Earlier this month police confirmed that there was a "sectarian element" involved in the early morning which Lennon unconscious and requiring hospital treatment.

He was treated for minor injuries at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow following the incident.

The 37-year-old former Northern Ireland international did not initially make a complaint but later in the day changed his mind.

At the time a spokesman for Celtic said Lennon was the target of "sectarian abuse" while walking home alone and was then subjected to a "serious assault" by two men.


Earlier this month Strathclyde Police said: "We can confirm that following further inquiries there would appear to be a sectarian element to the incident."
