Support for the SNP is now running at record levels, according to poll findings today.

Nearly a year after the party won power at Holyrood, there is no sign that its honeymoon with voters is fading.

Instead, the reverse has happened and the party is now running seven points ahead of Labour in constituency voting intentions, according the poll by Progressive Scottish Opinion.

The poll, which questioned 1,004 voters between April 15 and April 22, suggests support for Alex Salmond's party in the constituency vote is running at 40%, compared to the 33% it achieved in May's election.

Labour at 33% has barely moved from the 32% it achieved in May.

And support for the Tories and the Lib Dems has slumped - from 17% to 13% in the case of the Tories and from 16% to 10% in the case of the Lib Dems.

The poll, for the Daily Mail, shows support for "others" has gone up from 2% to 4%.

SNP deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon MSP said her party was "delighted" at the findings, which came on the back of "solid policy delivery" by the minority administration.

"In our first year, we have frozen the council tax, cut business rates, restored free education, abolished bridge tolls, and are scrapping prescription charges and delivering 1,000 more police officers on Scotland's streets," she said.

"We will continue to deliver for the people of Scotland, while the other parties continue to flounder."
