LYNNE Sharp and Rochelle Travers both aged 13 and Pamela Thorburn, 12, all from Glasgow, have just been notified by The British Ski Federation that they have been accepted on to the British Children's Ski Team.

The selection was made by The British Ski Foundation primarily on the results at the British Children's Championships which were held in April 1998, where each of the girls won a gold medal.

Their individual achievments are very impressive: Rochelle Travers holds The Ryden's Bairn's and Lassie's Cup, Lynn Sharp is the Slalom, Super G and Combined Champion, and Pamela Thorburn has won most of the Scottish Competitions of her age group on snow and mat.

Becoming part of the British Squad will give the girls the experience of representing Great Britain in an international competition against other British skiers and, perhaps more importantly, other national teams. They will visit seven races between Jan-uary and April in places such as Andorra, Turkey, France and Topolino, Italy, which is generally accepted as the top event on the children's calendar.

Sharp, Travers and Thorburn train at The Glasgow Ski Centre, Bellahouston Park, and have been members of the club for many years. They are taught by instructors, Derek McMillan and Andrew Pinelli, two of the 60 qualified team of instructors at the club, and both ex-Scottish team members.

They have given the girls advice, guidance, encouragement and the knowledge of their own experiences throughout their years of competitive ski-ing.

Sharp, Travers and Thorburn are all seeking sponsorship to help fund their travel for competitions abroad and their training and equipment.
