THE busiest indoor hockey coach in Britain this weekend will be David
''Titch'' McPherson. He will be in charge of three teams in three
different competitions, and he could be celebrating two successes come
Sunday night.
McPherson's main responsibility will be Harris Academy FP in the
second division of the Scottish League at the McTaggart Centre in Dundee
tomorrow afternoon. Earlier in the day, he will be on duty at Meadowbank
looking after the Midlands women's senior side, and on Sunday, he will
be back in the capital with the Midlands men's under-21 squad.
The coach's best prospect of success will come with Harris Academy.
McPherson should also be successful on Sunday in the Inter District
Under-21 Championship. The squads are:
East -- Alan Stevenson, Johnnie Lothian, Stephen Manley, Craig Lamb
(all Inverlieth), Craig Foster, James Spreng (both Comware), David
Stephen (Edinburgh University), Vince Butler, Bruce McGowan (both Gala).
North -- Gregor Brown, David Cowie, Derek Wood, Paul Stewart (all

Kelburne), Graham Dunlop, Rickie Caldwell, Alistair Bleach (all Davidson
Workman).
* THE West District enjoys a unique position in Scottish women's
indoor hockey, having won the Senior Inter-District Championship on each
of the 11 years it has been contested, but with Western Klick Photopoint
losing their league crown to Edinburgh Ladies, after having won it every
year since its inception in 1989, West will be taking nothing for
granted.
The West, like East, will be off-loading some of their star players
who are returning to play for the districts of their youth in the
competition.
East, in particular, have been badly hit. Jill Messenger is
unavailable, Pauline Robertson will be spearheading the Midlands attack
while Janet Jack and Diane Renilson have defected to South. The most
noticeable absentees from the West side are Tracey Robb and Margery
Coutts, who will be bolstering the North side. The squads are:
East -- Helen Glass, Caroline Mitchell, Carol McManus, Shirley Bowman,
Sandra Gunn (all Boroughmuir), Elaine Cooper, Sharon Bissett, Jackie
Innes (all Edinburgh Ladies), Jackie Lothian, Val Neil (both Royal High
Gymnasts), Bridget Oates (Grange), Jane Savage (Fishheads).
South -- Yvonne Edwards, Paula Chalmers, Julie Brown, Susan Dickson,
Carrie Corcoran, Shona Calder (all Burts Melrose), Janet Jack and Diane
Renilson (both Edinburgh Ladies), Lynn Dickson, Lynn Redpath, Anne
Mackie (all Jedburgh), Lorraine Eardsman (Selkirk).
Midlands -- Avril McIntosh, Linda Thom, Alison Christie, Carol Muir
(all Perthshire), Pauline Robertson (Edinburgh Ladies), Emma Baxter,
Veronica Mackie (both Forfar), Jackie Brown, Nickie Kleppang, Debbie
McLeod, Isolbel Reid (all Grove), Mandy Strachan (Madras College FP).
North -- Tracey Robb, Margery Coutts, Lizzie Miller, Maureen Jackson
(all Western Klick Photopoint), Shirley Kellman, Wendy Huyton, Pauline
Van den Khon (all Aberdeen Bon Accord), Kerry Smith (Merlins), Hazel
Cowan, Laura Cruickshank (both Aberdeen Wanderers), Nicola Keepe
(Aberdeen GSFP), Fiona MacInnes (Heriot Watt SCPE).
West -- Morven McLeod, Gail Johnston (both Hyndland), Wendy Fraser,
Ann Menzies, Ellen Murray, Susan MacDonald, Moria MacLeod, Margaret
Barbour, Jacqui McLaughlin, Sheila Miller, Linda Chirrie, Kay Anderson
(all Western Klick Photopoint.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
