July 24.

I travelled on a Caledonian MacBrayne cruise to Tighnabruaich which,

at a remarkable price of #5 return, cleverly uses the vessel for car

traffic between Gourock and all pick-up points to Rothesay, when the

passengers are given full access to the ship's decks for the cruise to

the Kyles of Bute.

The revival of the shorter day cruise is proving very popular, judging

by the large complement aboard, and my only criticism is that if Largs

and Millport could be included on a Sunday an afternoon cruise could be

made to the once popular Dunagoil Bay, with magnificent views of Bute

and Arran.

CalMac, by the ingenious use of the vessel Jupiter, recently

refurbished, once again allows a cruise ''doon the watter'' at

affordable prices.
