GLASGOW'S own Boy McLean has died in a West Yorkshire nursing home,

aged 74.

Born Harry Bendon in Glasgow, he toured Scottish theatres under the

stage name of Boy McLean. He topped the bill at the Glasgow Empire

scores of times after the war and throughout the 1950s.

After moving south to Leeds he became a familiar figure on the

northern club circuit renowned for his fine tenor voice and accordion

playing.

Harry later busked for charity in Leeds, Manchester, and Liverpool,

and was seen regularly at northern racecourses. He attended Derby week

at Epsom and became almost as well known as ''I gotta horse'' Prince

Monolulu.

While in the nursing home in Bradford he entertained fellow patients

who, with help from a local newspaper, replaced his broken accordion.

He had fallen ill after the death of his wife.
