BRITAIN's greatest Olympian is to be honoured with a new cycle network in his home town.
Edinburgh-born athlete Sir Chris Hoy, 36, who is a multi gold-winning Commonwealth and World Champion, has six Olympic gold medals.
The Sir Chris Hoy Cycle Network was first mooted by Pedal on Parliament, a campaign group dedicated to raising the profile of cycling in the UK.
Picked up by Green councillor for Leith, Chas Booth, the idea was presented in a motion to the council and received cross party support.
Mr Booth said: "We were very supportive of Edinburgh City Council when they suggested giving Sir Chris the freedom of the city. His Olympic achievements have been an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of people, but as Greens we wanted to try to create a lasting legacy."
