GLASGOW'S new £113 million sports arena got off to a winning start despite a hiccup during the first official sporting event.
More than 10,000 people passed through the doors of the Emirates Arena during its opening weekend.
They included around 5000 basketball fans who watched Glasgow Rocks' first home match yesterday against Newcastle Eagles.
However, the lights went out during the match, which ended in a 106-84 win for the away side. A Glasgow Life spokesman said power was restored within 10 minutes and investigations were under way to establish the cause of the fault.
The problem did not appear to dampen the enthusiasm of fans, with dozens posting messages about the arena on the team's official Twitter page.
One fan said: "Seeing the arena in action was great. What a venue."
The facility was officially opened for the first time on Friday. More than 3000 people attended the venue on Saturday to watch a variety of sporting activities.
A spokesman for Glasgow Life said: "The Emirates Arena was built for the people of Glasgow and they ensured it got off to a winning start."
Built on a 10.5 hectare site in the city's east end, the venue will be called the Commonwealth Arena during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
