NEGOTIATIONS between a potential buyer and Hall's of Broxburn meat processing plant continued yesterday ahead of a further high powered meeting today.
The Government-led task force trying to save the West Lothian plant and its 1700 jobs will meet with unions and owners Vion after talks over a possible sale continued.
Graf Mortgage Corporation, which has an office in Edinburgh, said it had tabled a bid with Halls owner Vion saying the written offer required further "clarification".
It came after the firm outlined a timetable for closure on Friday.
Graf managing director Steve Green said: "There is a viable bid on the table and we will provide clarification that has been requested."
A Vion spokesman said it was engaged in detailed discussions with a number of interested parties to establish if their proposals would provide a "viable solution" for the Broxburn site and that it would update the Task Force tomorrow.
"Following an approach by Mr Steve Green on behalf of Graf Mortgage Corporation, a verbal offer was made by GMC to acquire the Hall's business on October 1. Vion has received an offer but still seeks further clarification."
West Lothian MSP Fiona Hyslop said: "If there is any prospect of a buyer coming in to take over Hall's and save jobs at the site, then it is imperative that Vion listens to any and all viable bids.
"The damage that will be done to the local community in Broxburn if these jobs go would be absolutely devastating. The loyal and dedicated workforce at the factory deserves far better treatment from Vion."
