HIBS have joined Edinburgh rivals Hearts in troubles with the taxman.

The Tynecastle club's winding-up order over £450,000 owed to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) caused amusement in Leith.

But one joke went too far, when the stadium announcer at Sunday's Scottish Premier League 2-1 victory against Dundee United played The Beatles track Taxman at half-time.

He was yesterday sacked for breach of conduct, but not before his choice of tune had delighted and dismayed both sides of the Edinburgh divide.

Hibs officials ensured the track was cut short but, as far as the PA master of ceremonies is concerned, the move came too late. Many home fans viewed the playing of the track as tongue in cheek. Student Adam Terris described it on Twitter as a "brilliant" choice.
