MOLDOVA is blocking a move by Russia to open a consulate in the region of Transdniestria until it removes its troops from the territory.

Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti said: "Moldova will not give its agreement to Russia to open its consulate until the Russian army has been withdrawn from Transdniestria.

"When the Moldovan authorities are not in control of the territory, where a separatist regime is operating, we can not guarantee the security of the work of a consulate from any country."
