The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of snake found wrapped around a toilet seat in Paisley.

An elderly couple were shocked to discover the young royal python in the bathroom of their flat on Storie Street on Saturday evening (November 17) and called Scotland's animal welfare charity for help.

The woman spotted the python coming through a hole next to the toilet pipe. However, by the time SSPCA inspectors arrived to remove the snake, it had wrapped itself around the toilet seat.

The snake is now being cared for at the Scottish SPCA's Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald. She has been nicknamed Lulu.

Chief Inspector Fiona Henderson said, "We understand Lulu managed to make her way into the bathroom by squeezing through a gap in the wall next to the toilet pipe.

"The lady who found her got quite a fright, but did the right thing by containing the snake in the room and calling us for help.

"Pythons are generally known for their placid nature and relatively small size so although they can look a bit scary, they aren't dangerous.

"We're keen to reunite Lulu with her owner who probably lives close by.

She's in good body condition and well fed so we're sure someone is missing her."

Anyone who recognises Lulu is being asked to call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
