Six Strathclyde Police officers have raided the home of a licensed sports gun dealer and seized firearms on a small island.

The team travelled by ferry to Kerrera, near Oban, where Gareth Murfin's detached house was searched under warrant.

However, locals on the island are demanding answers to why the popular businessman's isolated home at Oitir Mhor Bay was targeted.

Sheila McGregor, from Kerrera, said: "Nobody knows why the police have done this. Everybody on the island is talking about why – we all want to know."

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said a house on Kerrera was searched under warrant and a quantity of firearms was taken.

The spokeswoman added: "It's part of a routine public safety measure, nobody was arrested and there was no criminality."
