RESIDENTS in a fishing village have agreed a deal to save their red phone box – but it won't contain a working phoneline.

Villagers in Kilmuir on the Black Isle will find another use for the box, which they have adopted from BT for £1.

Last month, residents created a blockade around the phone box after a lorry with a crane was sent to remove the kiosk, which has been a landmark in the former fishing community for decades.

They placed a ring of steel round the K6-style box to stop it being moved.

BT said that the box had not been used for three years.

Villager Catherine MacRae, 65, said: "We're very glad our protest was successful. The red phone box is quite iconic."
