Snow has fallen across Scotland overnight, with up to four inches settling across the high mountains.

Glasgow and Edinburgh have seen up to two inches fall, and the showers hitting sub-zero road surfaces resulted in icy conditions for drivers.

Brendan Jones, a meteorologist at MeteoGroup, said this morning: "Overnight we have had snow across parts of Scotland, and it is still continuing.

"It will be quite changeable over the next few days, there could be some more showers and light snow, but the cold weather will stay.

"There is a risk of snow throughout the winter but it is likely Scotland will see another fall on Thursday."
