Former Hibernian and Scotland striker Garry O'Connor has been charged with alleged drugs offences.

The 29-year-old was arrested in Leith Walk, Edinburgh last night. He has been released on bail to attend court at a later date.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with alleged drugs offences. He is due to appear at court at a later date."

The former Scotland player started his career with Hibs and returned to the Easter Road club last season after leaving in 2006. He now plays for Russian side Tom Tomsk.

He played in last season's Scottish Cup Final in which Hibs lost 5-1 to Hearts.

The Edinburgh clubs faced each other on Sunday at Easter Road in the fourth round of this year's cup competition, which Hibs won 1-0.
