ONE of Scotland's smallest whisky distilleries could be set to resume production after a gap of 30 years.

The Dallas Dhu distillery near Forres, Moray, which operated from 1899 to 1983, is now a tourist attraction, but Historic Scotland wants to start distilling again.

Acting chief executive Ian Walford visited Dallas Dhu on Monday in response to a call from Moray MSP Richard Lochhead for Historic Scotland to maximise the potential of the "huge asset for Forres and Moray".

"With the growth seen in the sector in recent years, I believe there is great potential for whisky-based tourism," said Mr Lochhead.
