Heroin with a street value of £3.5 million has been seized in a police raid on two homes.

A man and woman were arrested during the operation in Glasgow yesterday afternoon, which also uncovered £175,000 worth of cannabis.

Officers from Strathclyde Police discovered the heroin haul during a search of homes in Shawhill Road, Pollokshaws, and Mavisbank Gardens, near Kinning Park.

The cannabis was found at a unit on an industrial estate in Lloyd Street, Rutherglen.

A 26-year-old man and a woman aged 28 will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today in connection with the drugs find.

Detective Chief Inspector Ricky Ness said: "This is one of the largest seizures the force has made this year and shows our ongoing commitment to keeping people safe by ridding Strathclyde's streets of the menace of drugs and tackling serious and organised crime."
