One of Scotland's most senior religious leaders is urging the UK Government to help failed asylum seekers living in poverty over Christmas.

Philip Tartaglia, the Archbishop of Glasgow, signed a petition on the issue and met two men from the Ivory Coast and Pakistan who are destitute after having their support cut.

Archbishop Tartaglia said: "I have concern for people in our back yard who may be forced to spend Christmas in freezing conditions because they've been made compulsorily destitute."
