A man who rigged up a secret camera in a toilet at his workplace to spy on female colleagues only caught himself on film.

Martin Rutherford, 31, stashed the device inside a toilet roll in the unisex toilet at a Co-op depot in Newhouse, North Lanarkshire, last June.

Colleagues uncovered his plot after spotting the gadget and discovering he had accidentally recorded himself setting it up.

Rutherford, a quality-control worker, was suspended while police were called in to investigate the incident. Officers raided his home in Kelty, Fife, but nothing was found.

Rutherford later admitted he had fitted the video to spy on female workers.

Last month a hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court heard him admit installing the camera.

Sentencing, due yesterday, was delayed for background reports. The court had heard how the video was analysed but no images of any other staff were found.

Sheriff Shiona Waldron placed Rutherford on the Sex Offenders' Register and deferred sentence until January 24.
