Some of Scotland's top authors will be unveiling their latest literary offerings in 2013.

The Scots author will release his 15th book Bedlam in February. The novel, which is the follow-up to Where the Bodies are Buried, is a tale of action and adventure set in the world of video games. It marks Brookmyre’s first foray into science-fiction writing.

Alexander McCall Smith
The author of over 80 books, including The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, the 44 Scotland Street and the von Igelfeld series, will release his latest offerings, The Girl Who Was Thursday and Trains and Lovers, in May and June. The Girl Who Was Thursday tells the story of an obsessive love, while Trains and Lovers is a collection of tales.

The Glasgow author will release Gods and Beasts and The Red Road in February and July. Gods and Beasts, the third book in the Alex Morrow series, follows the grumpy detective as she tries to solve a murder in Glasgow. Details about The Red Road have yet to be released.

Iain M Banks
Following on from The Hydrogen Sonata, the Scots author will unveil his latest novel, The Quarry, in October. Banks came to public attention in 1984 with the publication of his first book, The Wasp Factory, and has since gained worldwide popularity and acclaim for both his mainstream and science fiction novels.
Details of the plot for The Quarry are currently being kept under wraps.

The latest novel in Val McDermid’s Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series, Cross and Burn, will be released in September. The book is the follow-up to 2012’s The Retribution. However, details about its plot are currently unavailable.

The 10th book in Gray’s popular DCI Lorimer series, The Swedish Girl will be released in March. It tells the tale of the murder of a student in her flat in Glasgow and the battle to put her killer behind bars.

The Scots author will release Deadly Business and Pray for Dying in January and June. Deadly Business is the latest instalment in his Primavera Blackstone series while Pray for Dying features popular creation Bob Skinner as he investigates a murder at a concert in Glasgow.
