A concert with 20 new works of modern music will be part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Yesterday saw the launch of the UK's first New Music Biennial, which will culminate in concerts in London and Glasgow next year.
Organised by the PRS for Music Foundation, the Biennial wants proposals from organisations, festivals, orchestras and ensembles, promoters and venues in Scotland to present ideas for new work, with any musical genre considered.
The deadline for bids is March 4 and the music will be played around the UK before the Glasgow concert.
A panel of experts, chaired by Roger Wright, the controller of BBC Radio 3 and director of the BBC Proms, will choose the 20 works.
Vanessa Reed, executive director of PRS for Music Foundation, said: "We're delighted to launch the first ever New Music Biennial which will present high-quality new music to more people than ever before. "
Iain Munro, the director of Creative Development at Creative Scotland said: "Judging by the success of New Music 20x12, the commissions in 2014 will be works by talented composers from across the musical spectrum, presented by organisations who may be established or new commissioners, and performed to audiences throughout the UK by a wide array of talented musicians."
