CAMPAIGNERS have revealed there could be 500 new wind turbines in the Scottish Borders by the end of this year.

The figures were put together by community leaders in Berwickshire, who believe the 98ft structures are ruining the scenery and adding to further criticism of the SNP's green policies.

Cranshaws, Ellemford and Longformacus Community Council chairman Mark Rowley used Scottish Borders Council figures on planning applications and schemes currently under review to reach the total.

A spokesman for Scottish Borders Council said it was possible that by the end of the year 500 projects could be approved.
