TK Maxx has had to settle a dispute with the Harris Tweed Authority (HTA) with an out-of-court settlement.
The retailer, whose slogan is "Big Labels Small Prices", came into conflict with the guardian of the Harris Tweed trademark, the Orb, over two jackets.
The HTA, which is based in Lewis, said in November it had identified that TK Maxx was selling two styles of jacket in several colour ways and each contained some Harris Tweed.
It said it believed the labelling and promotion of the jackets breached the Harris Tweed Act 1993 and other rights held by the HTA on behalf of the Harris Tweed industry. The act defines Harris Tweed as a cloth that has been hand woven by the islanders of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra in their own homes, using pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.
The HTA said it considered such TK Maxx's conduct with "the utmost seriousness".
"The authority has secured an appropriate confidential settlement from TK Maxx."
A spokeswoman for TK Maxx said the company would not be commenting on the dispute.
