A 15-year-old boy has been remanded in custody accused of attempted murder following an alleged stamping attack on a 30-year-old man.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was held following an incident in Dundee in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Allen Smith was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Ninewells Hospital.

The boy, who is from Dundee, is accused of attempted murder. He is accused of assaulting Mr Smith by repeatedly stamping on his head to his injury and attempting to murder him.

The teenager, represented by solicitor Kevin Hampton, made no plea or declaration during an appearance at Dundee Sheriff Court and the case was continued for further examination.

Sheriff Tom Hughes remanded the boy in custody, and he is expected to appear in court again next week.

Tayside Police said a report has been submitted to the procurator-fiscal.

A spokesman said: "Tayside Police attended at Wentworth Avenue at around 1am on Saturday following reports of a disturbance.

"A 30-year-old man suffered injuries as a result of the incident.

"A 15-year-old youth has been charged in connection with the incident and a report has been submitted to the procurator-fiscal."
