A WOMAN died and a man is being treated for serious injuries after the car she was driving collided with a concrete pumping truck.

The Chevrolet Aveo struck the HGV on the A916 near the Union Farm Kennels in Craigrothie, near Cupar, Fife, at about 11am yesterday.

Weather conditions in the area were described by police as very poor with heavy snow.

She was declared dead at the scene and the man was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment. The truck driver was unhurt.

It followed the deaths of two men aged 20 and 24 who were involved in a crash on the A83 near Cairndow, Argyll and Bute.

A man was taken to hospital after a nine-vehicle crash in Aberdeenshire.

Four lorries, two vans and three cars were involved in the collision on the A96 near Huntly.

Most people involved were free from their vehicles by the time emergency services arrived but one male lorry driver was taken to hospital.

A man and a woman were cut free from the wreckage. A child was freed from the car before the emergency services arrived on the scene. They were taken to Borders General Hospital.
