A MERCEDES-Benz dealership in Scotland has been involved in market rigging, leading to its owner being fined more than £650,000 by the Office of Fair Trading.

The Ciceley dealership, which has a branch in Dumfries, was found to have breached competition laws through price fixing and the exchange of commercially sensitive information with its competitors.

The case, which centres on the distribution of Mercedes-Benz trucks and vans in the north of England and parts of Wales and Scotland, also resulted in a fine of £1.5 million for the Daimler-owned company.

Ciceley was fined a total of £659,675, while vehicle dealers Enza Motors of Warrington, Stoke, Trafford Park and Manchester, and North Wales-based Road Range were fined £347,000 and £115,000 respectively.
