SCOTS singer Emeli Sande has beaten The Beatles' decades-old record for the most consecutive weeks in the UK's Official Albums Chart Top 10 of any debut album.

Her album Our Version Of Events has been in the Top 10 for 63 weeks – a week longer than The Beatles' debut LP Please Please Me.

Sande, who is originally from Aberdeen, released her album in February 2012, and it went on to become the biggest-selling album that year.

Please Please Me spent 62 weeks in the Top 10 after its release on March 22, 1963, spending 33 of those weeks in the number one spot, and placed 39th in Rolling Stone magazine's "500 best albums of all time" in 2012.

Our Version Of Events has sold 1.82 million copies in the UK and was number one on the Official Album Chart for 10 weeks.

It notched up 100,000 sales in a week on three separate occasions.

The double Brit winner's number one hit Next To Me was also the third most played pop song of 2012, according to data released by the UK music licensing company PPL.

The 26-year-old is also in the running for further accolades, having been nominated for two prizes at next month's Ivor Novello awards – the Oscars of songwriting.

Next To Me is nominated for the best song musically and lyrically award and is also up for the most performed work prize.
