An advert offering a lord or lady title with land has been banned for potentially misleading consumers.

Lordtitles.co.uk claimed customers could "buy a Lord or Lady title - Genuine Lordship or Ladyship title with land in England – £18.95".

It promised a pack containing a genuine English lordship title, a gold-embossed certificate, two square feet of dedicated land, an information brochure, a historic coat of arms and log-in details to an online members' area.

However, three people complained it was not pos-sible to transfer ownership of registered land for the advertised price, and genuine lordship of the manor titles were available only when registered land was owned.

The Advertising Standards Authority said: "The ads must not appear again in their current form. We told Lordtitles to ensure future advertising did not imply ownership of registered land or genuine titles."
