A SCOTTISH youngster is about to be catapulted to international fame after landing a role in a top US TV drama after his second acting audition.

Roderick Gilkison, from Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, has been handpicked for a key role in Outlander, which is being dubbed as Scotland's answer to Game of Thrones.

The 11-year-old will play Hamish McKenzie, warrior heir to the chieftianship of a Scottish clan.

The show's star, 33-year-old Dumfriesshire actor Sam Heughan, Tweeted : "Met Roddy today, what a charmer! Great lad!"

Roderick said: "I heard about the audition from a friend who has done some acting. He said I would be perfect for Hamish because I have red hair."
