Students' representatives at a Scottish university have voted to ban advertising by payday loan companies on campus.

Dundee University's student representative council backed the move after a debate on the issue. The decision was said to have followed a campaign from the university's student funding unit and Dundee University Students' Association.

DUSA president Iain MacKinnon said: "It is great to see our student representatives getting involved in real issues which are affecting students. With the backing of the SRC, hopefully payday loan companies will get the message that they are not welcome here."
