TWO Scottish parks have received funding of around £2 million as part of a multi-million pound boost to conserve green spaces.
Hermitage Park in Helensburgh and Belleisle Park in Ayr will both undergo restoration work after being given the money from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
At Hermitage Park, which received just over £2m, the walled memorial garden, pond and gates will be repaired and work will also be carried out on the children's play park, bowling green and recreation pavilion. Those backing the scheme say it will help to meet the wider social needs of the community and encourage the use of the park as a location for education and learning.
Belleisle Park, meanwhile, received more than £1.9m to help revitalise the green space.
The grants were among £26.5m handed out by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund. Brompton Cemetery in west London, where famous names including suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst are buried, will be restored after receiving more than £3.7m.
Brompton contains six listed buildings and more than 35,000 monuments. As part of the work, the Grade II* listed domed chapel will be repaired and converted into a space for education and events, and the north lodge transformed into a cafe, information centre and base for volunteers.
