THE number of children admitted to hospital in Scotland's biggest health board for weight issues has fallen in the past four years.

Figures show NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde treated just four children under the age of five for obesity last year, in a marked improvement on previous figures. Seven five to 11-year-olds were also admitted to hospitals with conditions related to being overweight.

It compares to 2009/10, when 16 obese children, who were aged between five and 11, were admitted to hospitals in the health board area. A further nine obese youngsters - under the age of five - were also admitted that year.
