A WOMAN is to stand trial charged with killing her husband by running him down with her car.

Kareen Pope, 44, pleaded not guilty to causing death by careless driving on indictment when she appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday.

It is alleged that Mrs Pope, 44, of Limecraigs Crescent, Paisley, caused the death of George Pope, last December 6 in the town's Waverley Road, by driving a Ford Focus carelessly as he walked on the roadway and while she knew him to be intoxicated.

It is alleged she "failed to drive around him when there was ample room to do so" and caused the vehicle to collide with him, whereby he fell to the ground.

Sheriff Tom McCartney continued proceedings for a jury trial to take place during a sitting commencing on January 20.
