Scottish pupils should be taught about the country's historical associations with the slave trade as part of a move to tackle modern-day racism, according to a leading human rights campaigner. 

Sir Geoff Palmer, OBE, Scotland's only Black professor, believes the issues of modern racism cannot be fully addressed until Scotland acknowledge its prominent role in slavery, and the school curriculum should incorporate this when pupils are taught about the subject.
