A LARGE turnout is expected for the funeral of TV sitcom star Ford Kiernan's young son following his death earlier this week.

Sonny Kiernan, 12, will be laid to rest at Clydebank Crematorium in West Dunbartonshire on Tuesday after he died suddenly at the Still Game star's family home in the west end of Glasgow on Monday.

The tragedy led to an outpouring of tributes and goodwill from celebrities and close friends of the Kiernan. Police are treating the death as unexplained, and the cause is subject to ongoing inquiries.

In a notice in today's Herald, the family said he was a 'cherished son and brother' and the funeral was open to all of the Kelvinside Academy pupil's friends.

However, they have requested no flowers.

The school has paid tribute to the youngster described as a 'cheerful boy who brightened our lives'. One pupil yesterday said he had lost 'one of my great friends' and was unable to stop crying over the tragedy.

In other tributes, Bafta-nominated filmmaker Ryan Hendrick tweeted: "Tragic news about Ford Kiernan's son Sonny. No parent should ever have to bury their own child. My thoughts go out to Ford and his family."

Glasgow-based TV actress Susan Sutton tweeted: "My heart goes out to Ford Kiernan and his family."
