HOUSEHUNTERS are getting the chance to snap up the birthplace of a real-life Robinson Crusoe, believed to be the inspiration for Daniel Defoe's novel.
The three-bedroom flat in Lower Largo, Fife, built on the site where Alexander Selkirk was born, is on the market for offers of more than £150,000.
The Main Street property was built where Selkirk's thatched cottage once stood and has a statue, pictured, and a plaque commemorating its historic links.
The flat is described as: "forming part of the "B" listed Crusoe Building, birthplace of Alexander Selkirk, in the heart of this picturesque seaside village."
Believed to be the inspiration for Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe, Selkirk was marooned as a castaway on Más a Tierra ,off the coast of Chile for more than four years. In 1966 it changed its name to Robinson Crusoe Island.
Tracy Ramsey, from Murray Donald Solicitors, said: "It's a very good price and it's lovely inside as well."
