Two senior officials at Scotland's largest council have been dismissed following a probe looking back at years of financial irregularities.

Kaiser Khan and Evelyn Beck, who were part of a team awarding cash and aid to start-up firms at Glasgow City Council, were sacked yesterday, having been suspended since November.

All the information collected during the council's investigation will be passed to Police Scotland.

The council's business advice team manager, Marjorie Miller, had also been suspended. She had been under investigation over concerns of cash awarded to a firm connected to her husband.

Ms Miller retired on Wednesday. The file sent to Police Scotland relates to the three cases.

The investigation was started after routine auditing threw up what was first thought to be a "moonlighting scam" before extending into a number of other areas.

A council spokesman said: "Following an extensive investigation, two members of staff in Development and Regeneration Services have been dismissed for gross misconduct."
