KEEPING an allotment is proving increasingly fashionable for green-fingered young city dwellers.

With the number of people maintaining plots on the rise, it is perhaps no surprise that a pub should cash in on the trend with an allotment theme.

The Potting Shed in Edinburgh has been nominated as Best New Bar at the 2014 Publican Awards, with the ceremony taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London in March.

The trendy bar targets young professionals and offers food and drink menus based on farmer and fishermen friends of the bar manager.

Meals are served in hand-made wooden boxes and bespoke cocktails are served in tea cups, jam jars and old crystal glasses.

The owner of The Potting Shed, Craig Minto, said: "Our vision was to bring a unique concept to Edinburgh, a drinking venue with a quirky presentation."
