A DRIVER has been convicted of killing an elderly man after swerving on to the wrong side of the road.

A Volvo V70 being driven by Andrew Duffy, 31, crashed into the Peugeot 206 being driven by George Sweeney, 76, of Greenock.

The crash took place in Greenock, at about 7.30pm on November 8, 2011. The court heard that Duffy had overtaken two cars at speed moments earlier and lost control on a bend.

After a trial at the High Court in Glasgow Duffy was convicted of causing Mr Sweeney's death by dangerous driving. Sentencing has been deferred.
