THOUSANDS of Scottish university lecturers and support staff are to take part in further industrial action from next week in a UK-wide dispute over pay.
The move by UCU Scotland, which represents 6000 university staff, will see members taking part in a series of two-hour strikes aimed at disrupting teaching.
The union, which has already taken part in a number of walk-outs, said the action would hit lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals.
The first of the three two-hour stoppages will take place next Thursday, with further action planned for January 28 and February 10.
The move follows the offer of a 1% pay rise from the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA), which negotiates on behalf of universities.
Unions say the offer is derisory and follows several years of real-term pay cuts, but UCEA argues that it is the best available at a time of tight funding for institutions.
