APPEAL judges have rejected a bid by the Scottish Professional Football League to take a case to the Supreme Court in London over an action which has left it facing a £1.7 million claim.
The SPFL earlier failed in an appeal over the use of decoders to screen live Scottish Premier League games via a Polish broadcast at a Lanarkshire bar. It sought leave to appeal to the London court but the move has been rejected by judges at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
Lady Paton, who heard the bid with Lord Bracadale and Lord Kingarth, said "an authoritative ruling" on the issue had been made by the European Court of Justice Grand Chamber. She said in their view, no new issue of general public importance was raised by the SPFL application.
Lady Paton also pointed out that a full hearing had still to take place in the dispute between the football authorities and ex-Celtic player Harry Hood's Lisini Pub Management.
