A FATHER who captured the hearts of people around the UK as he charted his lengthy battle against stomach cancer in a series of emotional radio interviews has died in hospital.

Steve Evans, from Wolverhampton, kept listeners of BBC Radio 5 Live informed of his condition and his daily life in several humorous and touching discussions with presenter Richard Bacon.

The former council worker, 52, attracted more than 26,000 Twitter followers as he kept his "extended family" up to date with his treatment and hobbies.

Four days ago, Mr Evans said one of his friends would keep his followers updated when he died.
