DETECTIVES are hunting a gang who stabbed a young man in a knife attack.

The 24-year-old suffered stab wounds and a head injury in the incident, which police are treating as attempted murder.

Police said the man was stabbed following an "altercation" with two men and two women.

The attack took place at around 9.30pm on Sunday in the Foxbar area of Paisley. Police were called to Morar Drive.

Police said the victim was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where he is being treated for stab wounds and a head injury.

Both men are described as white and in their 20s.

One man was topless and wearing jeans, while the other is described as wearing three-quarter-length khaki shorts, with a black T-shirt.

One woman has dark coloured hair, which was tied up in a ponytail. She was wearing a black vest top.

The other woman has long blonde hair, and was wearing a light-coloured jumper with light-coloured jeans.

Officers are studying CCTV footage from the area in a bid to trace the suspects.

Detective Inspector Julie Henry, from Paisley Police Office, is leading the investigation.

She said: "Officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area in an effort to gather more information and those responsible.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed this attack, or has any information that may assist police enquiries to come forward."
