A SCOTTISH soldier's final moments are to be turned into a film part-financed by donations from his comrades.

Paratrooper Mark Wright was posthumously awarded the George Cross for his heroism after he died in 2006 trying to rescue a three-man patrol from a minefield in Afghanistan.

Now producers have started raising finance for a British feature, to be titled Kajaki after the area of Afghanistan where the action occurred, boosted by donations from Paratrooper Wright's military colleagues.

So far about £30,000 has been collected in donations, with the film crew hoping to attract around £40,000 of their total £1.2 million budget from the public.

Lucy Trendle, the film's campaign producer, said: "We've had almost 450 donations from the public to date, most of whom are from the military. Through social media we've been able to find the guys who were there, and promote our crowdfunding campaign."
